A Weekend of Adventure and Peril

A list of things that happened over the weekend in Chantilly, VA.

  • Bus trip at 8 AM Friday with Joe Shi and Anthony Loman where we snagged seats with a little table in between - slung cards on the way
  • Went 0-1, 0-1 in the grinders with Geopede Jund - found out Sedraxis Specters do nothing against UWx
  • Anthony lost his Superfriends deck (got stole) - talk about bad beats
  • Built my Mythic deck Friday night and stuck in random cards (told you I was unprepared!)
  • Went 3-3 drop on Day 1. Lost to mono-red, mirror, and 4c cascade
  • Had dinner with Brian Kowal, Jon Becker, and Jake Van Lunen at a pretty good Korean place
  • Had second dinner (but actually only cheesecake) at the Cheesecake Factory, which is a Sam Black favorite apparently - went with Brian Kowal, Sam Black, Gaudenis, and Stephen Neal. The cheesecake was excellent.
  • Hung out in the GGSlive booth for a bit - unfortunately I'm not really a camera person
  • My friend Ong Wei Jian won a seat in a draft with his raffle ticket -- won the draft with monoblack and got 4 Underground Seas
  • Did a team draft and went 3-1 with GBr. My deck was okay but lost to Linvala in two games.
  • Lost my Mythic deck
  • Found my Mythic deck (because there are still some decent people who play Magic)
  • Did a 5-minute podcast with Big Head Joe. Joey Pasco had to leave for the Lost finale.
  • Mised a ride back to New York with some great people - David Drebsky, David Jasie, and Rob Bless. Went to a nice restaurant in DC called Old Ebbitt Grill. Walked around sightseeing until past midnight. Saw the Washington Monument, WWII Memorial, and the Lincoln memorial which are lit amazingly at night. There were also ducks.
  • Played Magic card 20 questions in the car ride back.
  • Was back in New York by 6 AM just in time to see my boyfriend before he went off to work. "Did you win?" "No."
It was a lot of fun. I was very sad some of my new friends had to leave. But one day Magic will surely bring us back together. That's what this card game is about.
