Polluted Delta / MTG Buzz #3

People have a lot to say about Magic. I'm finding that I have less and less to say about it. The more I read, the more I feel like everything has already been said. Yet, I still write out my thoughts and opinions - in a notebook, in a textbox, in a Word doc. I just haven't written out any full articles. I've also been thinking about Magic basically 24/7, since it's essentially a full-time job for me now (just not in the "playing nonstop" kind of way).

I read and edit approximately 16,000 words a day about Magic. On top of that, I read a lot of non-SCG articles that come my way, try to watch a video series occasionally, and listen to some podcasts. Then on top of that, a lot of blogs have started popping up like Gerry T's new blog, Tom Martell's blog, and now Gavin Verhey has one in the works. I'll post a bunch of links later.

I remember when I started my Twitter account, with mostly no idea what I was getting into. Twitter is a monster. It can be a job on its own. I can either choose to keep up with it or just leave it alone for a while. It's an on-and-off thing for me. I'm either "on it," in which case I read most of my Tweets, or I'm "off it," in which case I read none of my Tweets.

I think I need to find the medium here. Because a lot of the Tweets I read are honestly irrelevant. As much as I want to keep up with people's tastes in music, the latest sports game, what's going on in TV shows I don't watch, who farted, and who didn't fart... hmmm.... okay I don't give a fuck about any of that. But I also don't want to be stingy about who I follow. I'm already pretty stingy.

Anyway, I'll figure something out.

In the meantime, I'm going to try to keep my Tweet stream cleaner on my end. The problem is when I engage in somewhat off-topic conversations with someone else, and people are following both of us and end up seeing that conversation that they didn't really need to see.

The point is, there's only so much real estate out there for text-based ideas and thoughts. Twitter doesn't have a limit, but our brains do. So it's wise to realize that there is such a thing as text pollution.

I recommend not using Twitter to actually communicate with me if it's important. I have my own awesome gmail address now: mulldrifting. Yeah, no surprise there. You can also aim me at eelitist. Facebook works also; although I'm not a big fan of the FB. It's also covered in spam, and I hate how uncustomizable it's gotten. I still use it, of course.

Some quick announcements and notable links.

I really want to go to Singapore la! Santiago, Chile, would also be pretty sweet la! But I'm prooobably just going to stick primarily to American events. Unless I find some good excuse la.

Booster Draft Announcement
They're switching the order of how we draft boosters. So it'll be Mirrodin Besieged first and then two packs of Scars. Permanent change, apparently.

This change can work, but they just have to do it right. I don't think it would've worked in ZZW, but it probably would've worked in LLM, like Sam Stoddard argued in his recent SCG article. I also don't think I would've liked to open Conflux before Alara. It'd be a much worse idea to go five-color without the insurace of having tricolor lands and whatnot. Again, it's just all in how they execute the sets. I'm fairly optimistic it'll work out.

Tom Martell's videos on ChannelFireball have been quite excellent even if you can't quite read the cards. I highly recommend them for peopled interested in improving their Limited game. Or just learning more about Sealed and Scars of Mirrodin.

Bunch of Magic blogs by notable people:

Make sure to click the "MTGO Happenings" tab on the top of Gerry's blog.

I love it when moments like that are captured in time, just little snippets of text that immortalize the game. No one but Magic players would know what the hell that meant. But it's effing hilarious to people who know.

Gavin Verhey wrote an article in the style of someone from the future witnessing the end of Magic. I imagine when that happens, the language of Magic will be lost forever. No one will understand all our funny jokes! The tragedy! (Article is really awesome by the way; check it out.)

Slow week leading up to GP Toronto. I'll be watching GGsLive probably for some of it, looking for all my favorites! KYT??!! Can't wait to bird from home.

Watch for me on the chat as Mulldrifting :)
